Central Europe (Vienna, Prague, Berlin, Potsdam)

September 2002

Dave's brother visited us in September 2002, so that meant a tour through Central Europe.

Vienna

1.Austria_Vienna_Sept2002_ActionHeroesZwei.jpg (84002 bytes)   2. Austria_Vienna_Sept2002_I_OfferYouMyBalls.JPG (91794 bytes) 3.Austria_Vienna_Sept2002_wife.jpg (64720 bytes)

1. Couple of action heroes.

2. Mozart's chocolate balls are for sale everywhere.  More Mozart action is available on our Salzburg page here.

3. Julie.

Prague

4.Czech_Sept2002_ReySleeping.jpg (56289 bytes) 5. Czech_Sept2002_ActionHeroes.jpg (53697 bytes) 6.Czech_Sept2002_JulieAtPragueCastle.jpg (59189 bytes) 7. Czech_Sept2002_22Tram.jpg (95134 bytes)

4. Rey passed out on the way to Prague.

5.  Action film stars on the Charles Bridge.

6. Julie observing the St.Vitus cathedral in the Prague Castle.

7. The No. 22 tram.

Berlin

8.Germany_Berlin_Sept2002_ImportantBuilding.jpg (72445 bytes) 9. Germany_Berlin_Sept2002_JulieAndBosnianBear.jpg (67225 bytes) 10. Germany_Berlin_Sept2002_Wall.jpg (71356 bytes)

8.  A Berlin landmark whose importance neither Julie nor I can remember.  (Bit ignorant of us.)

9.  At the Bears for Peace display, Julie poses by the Bosnian bear.  Note that reconstruction seems to be a theme.

10.  Last signs of the old Berlin -- one of the few remaining sections of wall.

11.Germany_Berlin_Sept2002_PotsdamerPlatz01.jpg (101053 bytes) 12.Germany_Berlin_Sept2002_PotsdamerPlatz02.jpg (95861 bytes) 13. Germany_Berlin_Sept2002_PotsdamerPlatz03.jpg (46851 bytes)

11-12:  The new Berlin: pictures from the Potsdamer Platz.

13.  Rey (on the right) emerges from the huge Sony store wondering where we are.

Potsdam

14.Germany_Potsdam_Sept2002_Evening.jpg (36290 bytes) 15. Germany_Potsdam_Sept2002_PotsdamConference.jpg (81108 bytes)

14.  Julie loved this picture taken at night of a gate and bicycle in Potsdam.

15.  Reenacting the Potsdam Conference for our amusement -- note the picture on the right with Churchill, Truman and Stalin shaking hands.  Note also my crude Stalinist attempt to erase the guy standing on the left from the picture -- unfortunately, I didn't succeed in getting rid of him.
