More Photos from our trip to Greece in March, 2001

Driving around Santorini

1. 2. 3. 4.

1. Our means of transport, a Fiat Panda with approximately 45 hp and a spiffy canvas top.

2. First flowers of spring (a.k.a., weeds) were just coming out.

3. The town of Megalohori.

4. Near Imerovigli.

Village of Ia, Santorini

5. 6. 7. 8. 9.

5 and 6. Ia is the village on Santorini that you see pictured in gyro restaurants all over the world.  We discovered that, in early March, the place is abandoned except for workmen getting it ready for tourists (such as ourselves) who should start arriving in April.

7. Size comparison:  Julie and one of those ubiquitous blue domes.

8. Workman with donkey, which are used to carry materials around.  With all the stairs and narrow alleys, you can't use anything with wheels to move things around.

9. Outskirts of Ia.

Dogs on Santorini

10. 11. 12.

10. and 11. It was very quiet when we were on Santorini, and we saw lots of dogs relaxing on walkways that are usually full of people.

12. Julie liked this picture since this dog reminded her of Smoogly, back in North Carolina.

Lighthouse on Santorini

13. 14. 15. 16. 17.

13. and 14. Some nice views of the Aegean from the lighthouse near Akotiri, on Santorini.

15. and 16. You can faintly make out some of the other Greek islands on the horizon.

17. Julie on the way down.
